Last Thursday on May 12, 2016 Jamie Mehringer, President of J&D Turf teamed up with DuraEdge Utah to present to the Utah Chapter of the ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects). The one hour educational session took place on the Highland High School baseball field.

According to Jamie, “interactive discussion on materials and spec writing took place regarding facility design, drainage, field grades, infield mixes, mound clays, and warning tracks. Finally, a Q&A session occurred, followed by individual discussions over lunch provided by DuraEdge.”

This was the first time DuraEdge directed a social solely at landscape architects, and it was achieved with great turn-out success. In total, bringing in 33 attendees, more than doubling the typical ASLA monthly social attendance.

Highland High School is the site of current major renovation on multiple field surfaces. Last summer a full DuraEdge certified installation was done on the very same baseball field where the social took place. In addition to the baseball field, a new football field was installed, and this summer a new softball field will be added to the list. This allowed for a great opportunity to not only learn about facility design and maintenance, but to see the process firsthand. To add to the experience, there was also an ABI Force on site–further exemplifying our 3-step process of Safe & Playable Infields: As Easy As 123.

Bringing in Jamie to present to the landscape architects was the perfect fit. Jamie started off his career with a solid educational background, coupling a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management from Marian University and an Associates Degree in Turfgrass Science from Purdue University. On top of his impressive educational background, he has over 15 years work experience in the industry. Starting first at Victory Field, he was the Head Groundskeeper for the Indianapolis Indians. He later became Director of Operations. In 2008, he founded J&D Turf. Jamie oversees and manages sports turf construction, renovation, and maintenance on a daily basis.

We look forward to more events like this in the future!
